Basecamp Brewpub & Meadows

Come join us for a kick backed weekend full of competitions, classes, and talks geared towards the Home Brewer.  On Friday night we will have a kick-off bonfire with live music from Mama Tried.  Saturday will be full of fun and educational tours, classes, and beer-centric activities, with plenty of time for a pint with other home brewers.  Afterwards, we can gather in The Meadows for an award ceremony to announce the winner of the first Devils Backbone Home Brewer’s Weekend home-brewed lager competition and live music by The Folley.

Each Ticket includes your selected camp site (maximum of 4 people please), ONE steel camp mug, ONE 10% Discount Card (good for your entire stay at DB), ONE raffle ticket, access to all free classes, workshops, and entertainment.  Steel camp mugs will be for sale if you would like to purchase more, Home Brew campers’ receive access tickets for participation in any class, tour, or talk for chances to win brewing ingredients and DB swag.

Homebrew Lager Competition: Have a homebrewed Lager in your fermenter or in bottles you are proud of? Want to see how it measures up? Want to win a chance to collaborate with the DB innovation team to brew a beer at Basecamp? Sign up for our Lager Competition!  One entry per camper.  Beers will need to be dropped off on Friday at Check-in.  $10 entry fee.

Check in will start at 3 PM on Friday, March 29th, please stop by the DB Shop at Basecamp Brewpub & Meadows to check-in, get your assigned site information and your weekend schedule.

At 6 PM join Jason Oliver, Devils Backbone’s Founding Brewmaster for “Test Your Beer Knowledge”.  Answer beer trivia questions posed by DB Founding Brewmaster Jason Oliver with chances to win home brew related prizes!

Following Jason’s session we will migrate to the Bonfire area where you can join in a Home Brewer’s Bottle Share while enjoying music by Mama Tried.  Remember to bring a bottle or two for sharing, tasting glasses will be provided.

11:30 – Sensory Evaluation and Off Flavor Detection:  Sharpen your palette and hone your off flavor detection skills with former DB Brewer and Lab Tech Sydney Nicholas.  Limited spaces available.  $10 per person option to add on to your camping ticket.

1:00 – Malt Education Workshop with April Anderson:  Currently working in sales for Country Malt Group and a veteran professional craft brewer of both east and west coast breweries, April Anderson will give insight into the wide world of malt. Free to attend, sign up to reserve your spot, option to add on to your camping ticket.

1:00 – VIP Brewery Tour and Tasting:  Get a VIP, behind-the-scenes look at DB brewing equipment and processes followed by a tasting of rare beers as well as Q&A.  Led by Director of Basecamp Brewing Operations, Aaron Reilly.  Limited spaces available.  $10 per person option to add on to your camping ticket.

2:30 – Growing Hops for Home Brew with Stan Driver:  Founding member of the Old Dominion Hops Cooperative, Stan Driver will speak about the proven methods of growing hops in the home garden, with a focus on hop varieties and recommended practices in Central Virginia.  Free to attend, sign up to reserve your spot option to add on to your camping ticket.

4:00 – Deep Dive into Yeast with Noelle Gray:  Avid homebrewer, IBD certificate in brewing holder and executive member of CAMRA (Charlottesville Area Masters of Real Ale) Noelle Gray will share her knowledge of brewer’s yeast and fermentation. Free to attend, sign up to reserve your spot option to add on to your camping ticket.

4:00 – VIP Brewery Tour and Tasting:  Get a VIP, behind-the-scenes look at DB brewing equipment and processes followed by a tasting of rare beers as well as Q&A.  Led by Director of Basecamp Brewing Operations, Aaron Reilly.  Limited spaces available.  $10 per person option to add on to your camping ticket.

5:30 – Award Ceremony:  The winner of the first ever DB Camp Home Brewer’s Weekend Lager Competition will be announced as well as raffle prizes awarded.

6:00 – Grab some dinner and a pint while hanging out with other home brewers and enjoying live music by The Folly on the main stage
