In between decorating, last minute shopping and holiday gatherings over the weekend, a few of us were out on various adventures in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Brittany and Heidi spent the day at Wintergreen zooming down the mountain on skiis, Elizabeth was out and about in Culpeper, Casey was getting her groove on at a wedding reception and I went for a hike along parts of the Appalachian Trail.
While on the AT I ran into No Filter (trail name) who was only hours, not even a full day, from finishing an adventure he started in May. We crossed paths at the Paul C. Wolfe Shelter – I was breaking for lunch with friends, No Filter was moving south, but not before sharing that his adventure would wrap up on Sunday, December 21 at “the, have you heard of, Devils Backbone? The Basecamp.” Can you believe it? Yes, I know Devils Backbone, I’m part of the DB team. “Nice to meet you! Too funny this small world.”
And although I had a million questions, we kept it short. No Filter didn’t dawdle. He reported having the Bonesmoker Platter the day before and planned to celebrate the end of his journey right back at Basecamp on Dec. 21. I think that perfectly captures the spirit of Basecamp! End an adventure at the base of the mountain in the comfort of friends, new and old – with delicious beers and a hearty meal!
With the solstice official here, I know my DB team members and I have many winter pursuits in store. What winter adventures do you have planned?
